Chairman of Georgian Parliament Archil Talakvadze steps down

Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Archil Talakvadze has resigned, InterPressNews reports.

As Talakvadze stated at the briefing held after the majority sitting, his place is in the parliament hall.

Georgian Dream nominated Kakha Kuchava for the position of Speaker.

"Given that several months of tense negotiations ended with an agreement, where I was involved along with the party chairman, I think it would be appropriate to leave the position of Speaker and nominate a person who will lead the work of the parliament from a more neutral position. Accordingly, we decided to carry out rotation. Now that we have a representative opposition in parliament, I believe my place is in the hall next to my colleagues and not in the role of the Speaker. It was a great honor for me to work as the Speaker of Parliament. I thank the team and our fellow citizens for their support and patience. We will continue to work together and fight for future success and we will definitely gain new victories and ensure progress in the country," Talakvadze said.
