Chess players from 45 countries to fight at Chess World Cup 2015

The Chess World Cup 2015 will be played in Baku on September 10. It will be a 128-player single-elimination chess tournament. Finalists from 45 countries will qualify for the 2016 Candidates Tournament.


The director of the Organizing Committee of the Baku Chess Olympiad and the World Cup, Mahir Mammadov, said that Azerbaijan is the only country that has adopted a special state program on the development of chess in 2008.


He also noted that all the players will be rewarded, the Azerbaijani side is providing financial support.


In addition, Mahir Mammadov spoke about the participation of Armenian chess players. According to him, the national team of Armenia will include Levon Aronyan, Gabriel Sargsyan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan and Hrant Melkumyan, as well as Samuel Sevian and Varuzhan Hakobyan (the US team). It was noted that the security of the Armenian participants will be provided at the appropriate level.


The national team of Azerbaijan will be represented by grandmasters Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teymur Rajabov, Rauf Mammadov, Gadir Huseynov, Eltaj Safarli and Vasif Durarbeyli.
