In Georgia a 56 km long highway, passing through the Rikoti Pass, may be built with investment from China.
This issue was raised at the recent 'Silk Road Forum' held in Tbilisi.
The head of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Nodar Javakhishvili, said that he held meetings with representatives of two Chinese companies concerning the construction of the highway. He noted that investors have not previously invested in the construction of the Rikoti autobahn due to the small amount of traffic moving on this segment. "Therefore, if the Chinese take over this investment, we will have more guarantees that Chinese cargo will go in the direction of Georgia," Georgia Online quoted him as saying.
