Former US President Bill Clinton proposed to Russian Presidents Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin to join NATO, Clinton said this in an interview with The Atlantic magazine.
Clinton spoke about the development of ties between NATO and Russia in the 1990s. In particular, he recalled that at that time Russia took part in the Partnership for Peace program, the Russia-NATO founding act was signed, and the United States provided financial assistance to Russia to withdraw its military from the Baltic states. The former head of the White House stressed that he did everything to help Russia make the right choice and become a great democracy of the 21st century.
