Coalition bombs Iraqi stadium used as IS base

Aviation of the international coalition have inflicted airstrikes on stadium near the Iraqi city of Ramadi, thus destroying a base of the terrorist organization Islamic State, the Pentagon reported.

It stored weapons and explosives hoarded by the militants, the Pentagon said in a statement.

"IS used the stadium as a base for its operations for controlling militants in the Ramadi region, as well as a central weapons distribution post in the valley of the Euphrates River," RIA Novosti quoted representatives of the US military agency as saying.

According to the Pentagon, the elimination of this base will prevent IS operations in this area.

At the same time, it is emphasized that today's operation was coordinated with the Iraqi authorities.
