Construction site of new nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan becomes known

The leadership of Kazakhstan has chosen the region of Lake Balkhash in the Almaty region for the construction of a nuclear power plant, the country's Minister of Energy Bolat Akchulakov said.

"We held an interdepartmental commission to determine the region for the nuclear power plant's location. This is the region of Lake Balkhash in the Almaty region, near Ulken village", TASS quoted him.

The Minister of Energy specified that now it is necessary to deal with geology, water, ecology, and then select a technology. This will be done in 2023. When the technology is determined, construction will begin. It may take about 10 years.

Akchulakov explained that Nur-Sultan is considering various technologies - Russian, French, Japanese, South Korean and Chinese.
