The omicron strain is unlikely to be the last COVID-19 variant, Michael Ryan, WHO's emergency program director, said on Thursday.
"I wish [it was the last variant], but I think this is unlikely at the moment. We are seeing a high infection and transmission rate of omicron. There are also grand problems with immunization - billions of people globally have not yet been vaccinated,” he said at a press briefing.
According to Ryan, there are still "many opportunities for the spread of the virus and the emergence of new variants.”
