Against the background of the recent terrorist attacks in the country and the operations carried out by Turkish Armed Forces against the PKK and IS, many citizens in a single patriotic outburst have expressed desires to join the army and take part in the fight against extremists, according to a statement released by the General Staff of the Republic.
"In connection with the terrorist attacks experienced by Turkey, many citizens are turning to the General Staff with a request to enter military service and fight terrorism. From our side, such impulses are met with understanding and approval," RIA Novosti quotes it as saying.
The General Staff did not specify how many citizens have applied to it in recent days with such requests.
The report also emphasizes that the Turkish army is strong enough to successfully perform its duties.
