Court to hear Saakashvili's case against Ukraine's Migration Service on Nov 30

The Kiev District Administrative Court has opened the proceedings on the suit of the former head of Odessa regional administration, leader of the New Forces Movement party Mikheil Saakashvili.

The plaintiff asks the court to recognize actions as illegal of the Main Directorate of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in Lviv region and acting head of the Main Directorate of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in Lviv region Ivanna Ivanochko on writing and sending the letter to Saakashvili signed by Ivanochko dated September 29, 2017, the press service of the District Administrative Court said.

The court session will be held on November 30.

Earlier, the State Migration Service of Ukraine said that Saakashvili ignored the issue of regulating his legal status in Ukraine.

"This gives reasoned grounds for the competent authorities to carry out procedural measures regarding his extradition from Ukraine exclusively within the framework of the current legislation," Interfax cited the service as saying.

The State Migration Service said that Saakashvili was refused in considering the motion for additional defense because the letter was filed with violations. Saakashvili said that he did not receive a refusal from the State Migration Service to grant him political asylum. As evidence, the politician showed a letter on the letterhead of the Main Directorate of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in Lviv region. According to lawyer Olha Fedyshina, the letter, dated September 29, was received by the politician by mail only on October 20.
