Crimea plunged into darkness

Last night Crimea and Sevastopol were deprived of electricity after supplies from Ukraine were terminated.

Yesterday, in southern Ukraine overhead transmission pylons, through which the Crimean peninsula received electricity, were bliwn up by unidentified persons. In connection with this, Ukraine has completely stopped its supplies. "Yes. Completely," RIA Novosti quoted the answer of the Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy of Crimea Yevgeny Demin to the corresponding question.

According to representatives of 'Ukrenergo', it will take at least two or three days to fix the effects of the explosions.

Meanwhile, the termination of the energy supply to Crimea and Sevastopol by Ukraine, on whose supply the peninsula depends 70%, led to the fact that these regions were completely cut off from electricity supplies.

"Crimea was completely cut off from electricity supplies at 0:25 on Sunday, at the moment we have partly managed to restore power supplies to Simferopol thanks to basic generators," the head of the department of information support of the central board of the Crimean Emergency Situations Ministry Vladimir Ivanov reported.

In connection with this, Crimea has announced an emergency regime. "An emergency regime has been introduced in Crimea in connection with the complete cessation of power supplies from Ukraine," he reported.

"The emergency regime introduced in Crimea will continue until the full restoration of power supply to the peninsula," he clarified later.

According to Vladimir Ivanov, the government of the republic has established a headquarters, which has taken upon itself to solve the problem of life-support of the most important infrastructure and social facilities of Crimea with the help of the emergency power sources.

Ivanov added that the most important infrastructure and social facilities of the republic already receive electricity via emergency power sources. "The important infrastructure and social facilities of Crimea are linked to the emergency power sources. In particular, we are talking about social facilities such as the operating departments of the hospitals of the peninsula," he said.

The regional department of EMERCOM has assured that the agency provides support and monitors the connection of social facilities in all the cities and districts of the republic. "The operational groups of the main directorate of EMERCOM of Russia in the Republic of Crimea provide practical assistance and monitor the connection of socially important facilities in all the cities and districts of Crimea," the ministry reported.

Thanks to the measures taken, the peninsula has already partially restored the power supply, this was particularly stressed by the Governor of Sevastopol, Sergey Menyailo. "The power supply of Sevastopol has been partially restored. After the blackout, Sevastopol's thermal power station generation dropped to 8 megawatts, and now the generation has returned to normal operation. Plus mobile gas turbine power plants are working," he said.
