Davutoglu: AKP to change Turkish constitution

Turkey’s Prime Minister and the leader of the Justice and Development Party, which won during the recent parliamentary elections, Ahmet Davutoglu, has stressed the need to change the constitution.

"Today's election result is a victory for peace, stability and democracy. The question hanging over the future of Turkey was finally resolved. This is a victory for all the citizens of the country. We will not leave Turkey without a government," he said.

Davutoglu noted that the government will work on the implementation of the goals, which are indicated in the 'Programme 2023'.

In addition, the Prime Minister said that the country should abandon the constitution, which was adopted in wartime. "I'm calling on all parties entering parliament to form a new civilian national constitution," TASS cited him as saying.

According to Turkey's Central Electoral Commission, the ruling Justice and Development Party has gained 49.3% of the votes.
