Davutoglu: Daesh attack proves need for our presence in Iraq

The recent Daesh attack on the Ba`shiqah military base proves the need for the Turkish military presence in northern Iraq, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said.

"We discussed the situation with the Chief of the General Staff. Our soldiers gave an appropriate response, Daesh positions were destroyed. This is very important in terms of demonstrating our forces' power. Our presence is necessary until the Iraqi government establishes legal controls," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.

The head of government assured that the Turkish military presence in Iraq does not threaten Iraqi sovereignty and is aimed at combating terrorist threats.

As Vestnik Kavkaza reported, yesterday Daesh shelled a military camp in Turkey.
