Ankara intends to continue cooperation with Russia in order to organize a successful fight against the Islamic State terrorist group, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu told the Times newspaper.
He pointed out that the downing of the Russian Su-24 "was not an act against a specific country." "Turkey based on standing rules of engagement, to protect the integrity of its sovereign territory," TASS cited Davutoglu as saying.
The prime minister said that Turkey will work with Russia and other allies to calm tensions.
Davutoglu also appealed "to focus on overcoming the international threat posed by IS", which will allow "to secure the future for Syria and find a solution to the current refugee crisis". "Failure to do so will enable IS to spread its hateful ideology," the prime minister stressed.
"We must rethink our collective course of action. The international community has failed to focus on the fight against the spread of IS in Syria," he believes.
The Prime Minister pointed out that "joint actions" by the US, the EU, Russia and Turkey "can change things for the better."
