Didier Burkhalter: the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict may be resolved only peacefully

The Swiss Foreign Minister, OSCE Chairman in 2014 Didier Burkhalter, said today after the negotiations between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan, dedicated to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, that the Karabakh problem may be resolved only peacefully.

"Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter stressed during today’s meeting with the heads of the two states that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict may be resolved only in the course of successive negotiations,’’ the Swiss Foreign Ministry website informs.

According to Tass, Burkhalter "urged the parties to strengthen the dialogue and reject any acts of violence or provocation," assuring them that Switzerland intends to support "efforts to promote a dialogue, hosting meetings and providing experts."

The ex-chairman of the OSCE explained that this was connected with the fact that Switzerland considers the South Caucasus to be one of the priorities in world policy.
