Dimitar Ganchev: Azerbaijan has made great progress in copyright protection

Over the past decade, Azerbaijan has come a long way in terms of copyright protection, the director of the Creative Industries Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Dimitar Ganchev said, speaking with the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza.

"I have visited Azerbaijan regularly for the past 10 years, and it's very pleasant for me to see the development of the intellectual property rights protection system in the republic. Azerbaijan carries out a great job not only in the development of legislation, but also in the practical struggle against copyright infringement, which is the problem of the whole world, especially in the digital environment. And I see that Azerbaijan is doing everything possible to counter this challenge," he stressed.

In particular, the republic is actively introducing the latest technologies and other opportunities of modern copyright to combat such crimes. I closely follow the progress of the republic in this area. Publishing activities, electronic publishing are very important topics, and Azerbaijani colleagues achieved certain successes, which should be watched very closely," Dimitar Ganchev said.

According to him, today the demand for the protection of intellectual property is higher than ever. "This year, the World Intellectual Property Organization will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Stockholm Convention, which established our organization on July 14, 1967. In the last ten years we have seen an explosion of interest in the topic of intellectual property, and our current task is to meet this challenge," the director of the Creative Industries Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization stressed.

"We need to decide how to adapt the legislation to the digital environment, how to respond to the new demands of our members. If there are any new problems in the field of electronic publishing in Azerbaijan, we will try to provide them with the necessary technical assistance services," Dimitar Ganchev concluded.
