The domestic world championship was the most important tournament in our career, the members of the Azerbaijani group team said today in an interview with the Vestnik Kavkaza correspondent after the qualifying performances with five balls, three hoops and two pairs of clubs at the 37th World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku. The team ranked 8th in the all-around exercise thus receiving a license for the Tokyo Olympics.
“It is hard to explain our emotions. It was very difficult to perform but we handled the excitement. Now we know why we worked all this year - for us, the home World Championship was the most important tournament in our career, especially since this is also a qualification competition for the Tokyo Olympics. This is a huge gift and a huge responsibility, so we are very happy that we did everything we could,” the Azerbaijani gymnasts emphasized.
“Before stepping on the carpet, we realized that we worked a lot all year, and we must perform well. Of course, there were doubts, but when the coach and girls support you, everything works out. Despite everything, we were optimistic, we went out and did everything right, ” Azerbaijani girls noted.
This week, on September 16-22, the 37th World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships is held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku. The tournament is the qualification competition for the 32nd Olympic Games in Tokyo. More than 300 gymnasts from 61 countries are competing for nine sets of medals. The motto of the tournament is “Fairy tales will come to life”.
