Drivers urged to avoid TransKAM Highway

TransKAM Highway (Transcaucasian Highway) may become extremely dangerous in the next 24 hours, the South Ossetian Ministry of Emergency Situations warns.

Weather conditions will make travel on the TransKAM Highway extremely dangerous in the coming hours. The South Ossetian Ministry of Emergency Situations press service issued a relevant emergency warning.

According to the warning, heavy snowfall is expected on both sides of the Roki Tunnel from 10:00 PM Thursday to 3:00 PM Friday. As a result, up to 40 cm of snow will fall north of the tunnel, and up to 30 cm south.

Strong winds with gusts reaching 13 m/s are also expected. Visibility on the road will be reduced to 100 meters. The air temperature at night will drop significantly below zero and rise above zero during the day, as a result, the travel will become slippery.
