Ebru Umar, a well-known journalist of Turkish origin, said she was arrested at her home in Kusadasi — a resort town in western Turkey — early on Sunday and brought before a judge.
She later said she was "free but forbidden to leave the country".
Last week she wrote an article in the free newspaper Metro criticising a Turkish consular official in the Netherlands for asking all Turks to report incidents of insults against Mr Erdogan in the country.
