The EU foreign office expressed concern about detention of the group of representatives of the academia circles in Turkey, who have signed the declaration condemning the military operation against Kurdish militias in the south-east of the country.
‘’The actions against the Turkish scientists, who have signed a declaration on the events in the south-eastern Turkey, are extremely alarming", TASS quotes the statement.
"Freedom of expression must be respected in accordance with the political criteria of Copenhagen, a climate of intimidation is contrary to this," Brussels said.
"We expect Turkey to guarantee that its legislation will be carried out in a manner corresponding to the European standards enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights" the representative of the office said.
