Declarations by Moscow and Ankara on possible reopening of the Turkish Stream natural gas causes concern in the European Union: Brussels believes that the new pipeline will strengthen Moscow's position, Reuters reports with reference to senior EU official sources.
According to EU diplomats, the Turkish Stream will be expanded to bypass Ukraine as a transit route for supplies to Europe, increasing dependence on Gazprom and shutting down alternative supplies from the Caspian region.
"Turkey's new friendship with Russia might become an issue if Russia tries to replace Ukraine with Turkey," a senior EU official said.
