The election of the President of Syria is a matter for the Syrian people. This opinion was expressed by Velayati Akbar, who is chief adviser to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Akbar also drew attention to the fact that the Syrians have chosen Bashar Assad themselves, and the government is legitimate.
According to the Ayatollah's adviser, if it were not for the support of Iran, the Syrian authorities would have been overthrown long ago. In addition, he noted that now other countries have come to help Assad's regime, gazeta.ru reports.
