Although the Georgian Military Road is currently open and check point "Verkhny Lars" allows cars to pass from Russia to Georgia and vice versa, the restoration of Russian-Georgian and Russian-Armenian road links can't be considered complete yet: the decision on operation of "Verkhny Lars" in current emergency conditions is made every day, but only for the following day, the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry department for North Ossetia warned Vestnik Kavkaza today.
"Today the road was open until 18:00, cars could pass the checkpoint starting from 4:00. Until it will be perfectly clear what is the long-term condition of the road on the Georgian side it will work like this. At the same time, we can't say how long will it last - the decisions are made every evening, but only for the following day," the press service informed.
It was difficult for the department to estimate the number of citizens of Georgia and Armenia, who are currently crossing the border with Russia by cars while it is still possible, but it noted that there are no queues. Car are waiting there just the necessary amount of time to check the documents.
The press service also reported about the work carried out by the Republican directorate. They helped people, who were stuck on the Georgian Military Road. "Life support campuses were deployed, Emergencies Ministry's planes carried out 6 flights, transporting 300 foreign nationals. They created all the necessary conditions," the press service concluded.
