Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused the United States and other western nations of attacking Turkey’s economy ahead of Sunday’s local elections.
"All these are a squeezing operation by the West and the United States in particular," the Turkish leader said in a town hall meeting with students broadcast on Twitter.
Erdogan said that inflation would fall as interest rates were cut. "The main issue is interest rates. As interest rates are brought down, inflation will fall," CNBC cited the Turkish leader as saying.
"The real problem is interest rates. I'm also an economist," he added.
