Iran and Turkey signed documents and memoranda of understanding in various fields in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in Teheran.

Erdogan said he believed that the countries will increase the bilateral trade volume to $30 billion. "Unfortunately, we faced a serious setback due to the COVID-19 outbreak. As of now, we have reached $7.5 billion. I believe that the two countries will reach $30 billion again.

"It is possible to accelerate this process with the steps that we will take in the defense industry. This can be accelerated with the steps to be taken in both oil and natural gas fields," Anadolu cited him as saying.

Erdogan said the Astana troika summit in Tehran can help re-assess the Syrian settlement process. "The summit can help re-assess and revitalize the Astana process. We will discuss this issue with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and [Iranian President Ebrahim] Raisi and discuss the latest events in Syria," Erdogan told a press conference after a meeting of the Turkey-Iran High-Level Cooperation Council held in the Iranian capital.

The Turkish leader also said Ankara and Tehran need to continue fight against terrorist organizations in solidarity. "PJAK, PKK, PYD, YPG, and FETO terrorist organizations are troublemakers both for Türkiye and Iran. We need to continue the fight against them in solidarity.

Speaking in the joint press conference with Erdogan, Raisi said that the Turkish leader's visit to Iran is a turning point for improving the level of relations between the two countries.

Stating that the trade relations between Iran and Turkey are not enough and the existing capacities of the two countries should be used, he added that trade relations between the two countries can reach $30 billion.

The cooperation between the two countries is very important in the security area, he noted, adding that the security of the borders of the two countries is very important and the cooperation of the security agencies of the two countries can play an effective role in the security of the borders.

Stating that the fight against terrorism, drugs and organized crime was one of the most important issues discussed in the meeting, Raeisi said that the two sides emphasized that any form of terrorism must be fought to maintain the security of the borders.

He went on to say that the cooperation of the two countries on regional issues was also discussed by the two countries, and both countries have a special emphasis on the security of Syria.
