Erdogan blasts Trump's decision on Golan Heights

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned U.S. President Donald Trump decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

"Whose lands are you giving to Israel, Trump?" Erdogan said, stressing that those lands "are Syrian soil according to the U.N," but the U.S. is attempting to give this territory to Israel.

"You do not have jurisdiction or a right like that," Hurriyet Daily cited him as saying.

The Turkish leader said the U.S. move on the Golan Heights is not recognized by the European Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Russia or China.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed a decree on Monday at the start of a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The decree formalized Trump's statement on March 21 saying it was time for the United States "to fully recognize" Israeli sovereignty over the Golan.
