Erdogan calls on Europe to answer for Namibia genocide

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan slammed Germany over the Bundestag's resolution on the events of 1915 which recognizes the relocation of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire as 'genocide', recalling the Namibia Genocide.

“Germany! I am telling you again: first, you have to give an account of the Holocaust. How you massacred more than 100,000 Namibians in Namibia; you should give an account of that” the Daily Sabah cited him as saying. Erdogan added Germany should be "the last country to hold a vote on a genocide", given its “history of massacres.”

"Our history is not a history of massacres. Our history is a history of mercy and compassion. This is the difference between us," Erdogan stressed.

The German Empire carried out racially-motivated mass killings of tens of thousands of Namibians during colonial wars waged on the territory of modern-day Namibia from 1904 to 1907. In 2004, the German government recognized the Herero and Namaqua genocide.
