Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the root causes of the refugee crisis in Turkey and Europe are the war in Syria and the state terrorism of Bashar al-Assad.
He urged the EU to work more closely with Turkey in the fight against terrorism, stressing the need for train-and-equip programs for rebels, formation of a safe zones to accommodate refugees and the declaration of a no-fly zone along the Turkish-Syrian border.
Speaking in Brussels, Erdogan reiterated that Turkey bears the brunt of the migratory crisis and chided European countries for conniving with groups of Kurdish militants who are listed as a terrorist organisation even by the European Union.
The Turkish President said the Kurdish armed groups' fight against IS does not give the group legitimacy. "There are no good and bad terrorists," Interfax cited Erdogan as saying.
