Today, Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) nominated incumbent Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as the People's Alliance candidate in the presidential elections, which will be held in the summer of 2023, AKP spokesman Ömer Çelik said following the party congress.
"The candidate from the People's Alliance will be our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. We have finally decided on this topic", he said, TASS reports.
Let us remind you that the presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are scheduled for June 2023. The People's Alliance ruling bloc includes the AKP and the far-right Nationalist Movement Party. The opposition parties have not chosen their candidates yet.
