Erdoğan opens new $5 bln power plants

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Monday opened a total of 158 new electric power plants, one of the mega projects of Turkey with $5 billion, Yeni Şafak reports.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Ankara, Erdoğan said the plants produce electricity from varieties of energy sources including dust, solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal lignite, stone coal and natural gas. He vowed that Turkey's electricity market would be third in Europe within a couple of years.

Erdoğan said Turkey's first nuclear electric power plant would be operating by 2023 and two other power plants will start producing in the coming years. “We must build these three energy plants,” Erdoğan stressed adding that some external hands had attempted to stop Turkey's every step toward the nuclear power plant projects.
