Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that Turkey is not constrained to the EU, and that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) could also be an option for Turkey, Daily Sabah reports.
On his return journey from official visits to Pakistan and Uzbekistan, President Erdogan told journalists that Turkey should feel relaxed about the EU bid and should not forget that there are alternatives to the bloc.
The President also noted that the EU is currently shrinking, referring to the British Brexit vote.
Erdogan said he had already discussed the idea with Russian President Vladimir Putin and with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
