A demonstration in support of Russian policy in the Middle East took place today around the world. It was organized by immigrants from Syria, as well as other civic associations. Rallies were held in Germany, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Belarus, Iran, Lebanon and India.
Representatives of the Syrian community in Germany, students from the Middle East, as well as members of German anti-fascist organizations gathered in front of the embassy of the Russian Federation in Berlin. Women and children held Russian and Syrian flags and chanted ‘‘Thank you, Russia! Thank you, Mr. Putin!’’ and ‘‘Salafis, get out of Syria.’’
Demonstrations also took place in the capital of Romania in order to support the Moscow government's position on the Syrian settlement. Representatives of the Syrian Arab League and the Union of Syrian Students in Romania gathered in front of the Russian diplomatic mission. They handed over a letter of thanks to the Russian Embassy, where they expressed the gratitude of the Syrian people to Russia.
Slovakian students also organized an action in Bratislava.
"The event was organized by the Union of Syrian Students in Bratislava as an expression of gratitude to the Russian leadership for its actions against terrorism in Syria and support for the Syrian army," the Russian Embassy reported on its page on Facebook.
Those Syrians and Serbs who attended the meeting in Belgrade also expressed their support for Russia and condemned the policy of the United States in the Middle East.
Slovakian students also organized an action in Bratislava.
"We cannot be satisfied with the policy of the United States and the European Union in the Middle East, because they are acting exclusively in their own interests. They destroy the region in order to receive an access to oil and gas,’’ the leader of the Syrian students Lamak Cooder said.
The action was joined by Syrians living in Belarus. A representative of the Syrian embassy Haitham Salman said that people thanked Russia "for the necessary support in the fight against terrorism, the ‘plague’ of the twentieth century." The diplomat pointed out that Moscow is the only one which acts in his country without violating international legal norms.
Syrian youth brought a few baskets with flowers, decorated in the colors of the Russian and Syrian flags, to the walls of the Russian diplomatic mission.
The action of solidarity with Russia took place not only in European countries, but also in the Middle East and Asia.
Thus, the Lebanese students, the Syrian youth in front of the Russian embassy in Beirut chanted ‘Thank you, Russia!’, ‘Only Assad and Syria.’ Many people attended the rally and brought portraits of the Syrian leader.
In Iran, the Russian ambassador Levan Dzhagaryan met with Syrian students, who study in Tehran. As part of an informal meeting they discussed the Syrian settlement. The ambassador also spoke about the principles that the country is always guided by in foreign policy.
The Russian diplomatic mission in India received a note from the Syrian ambassador, where he informed that the Syrians living in Delhi are to organize a meeting in front of the Russian embassy.
In addition, Russian action in Syria was supported in the Middle East by the spiritual leaders of Syria.
"The elders, muftis, and abbots of Syrian mosques supported Russia’s struggle against terrorism. Russia has always been on the side of truth and acted in full compliance with the rules of the international community,’’ the Minister on Awqaf affairs (religious property) in Syria, Abdel Sittar Al-Sayyid said.
"Thank you for today’s actions, for support during previous actions, as well as the peace that we will build together in future," the Grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun said.
Spiritual representatives presented the Russian ambassador in Damascus with a Koran as a symbol of gratitude from all the Syrian people.
