The upcoming referendum in the Netherlands on the feasibility of an Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU could turn into a new crisis for Europe if the majority of voters give a negative response, the head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker stated in an interview with the weekly newspaper Handelsblad.
"I want the Dutch electorate to understand that the importance of this issue goes far beyond the Netherlands," RBC quoted him as saying.
"I do not believe that the Dutch will say 'no', because it could open the door to a large continental crisis," Juncker warned.
According to the head of the European Commission, if the Dutch electorate vote against the Association Agreement, Russia "will pluck the fruits of easy victory."
