European Youth Olympic Festival - Tbilisi 2015 comes to an end in Georgia


The competitions were held in Tbilisi from 26 July to 1 August. The event brought together more than 4000 athletes aged 13 to 18 from 49 European countries. The program of the festival included 9 kinds of sports: basketball, handball, volleyball, judo, athletics, swimming, gymnastics, cycling and tennis.

The leader in the medal standings was Russia with 37 medals (17 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze). Second place was taken by athletes from Italy, with 24 medals (12 gold, 2 silver, 10 bronze). France came in third place with 9 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze medals.

The Georgian national team won 4 gold and 12 bronze medals. Azerbaijani athletes won 2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals. The Turkish national team won 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

The closing ceremony was held in the Olympic Village at 21:00 (MSK). During the event onlookers could see once again the national teams of the countries participating in the Olympic festival. Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, the chairman of the organizing committee of Tbilisi-2015 Aleksi Akhvlediani, and Vice-President of the European Olympic Committee Janez Kotsiyanchich addressed all the participants.

The closing ceremony of the 13th European Youth Olympic Festival ended with the Olympic anthem, swapping of flags and extinguishing of the Olympic flame.
