The former chairman of the State Duma and the current head of the Party of Russia's Rebirth, Gennady Seleznev, has died at the age of 68 after a long and serious illness.
Gennady Seleznev was born on November 6, 1947 in the town of Serov, Sverdlovsk Region. In 1964 he graduated from a vocational school in Leningrad, in 1974 he graduated from Leningrad State University.
In 1980-1988 he was the chief editor of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, in 1991-1993 he headed the Pravda newspaper.
He was a deputy of the State Duma of the first, second, third and fourth convocations in December 1993-December 2007. In 1993-2002 he was a member of the Communist Party. In 1996-2003 he was the chairman of the State Duma.
Gennady Seleznev was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1984), the Order of Merit for the Fatherland (II, 1997), the Francysk Skaryna Medal (2001).
