FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup kicks off in Baku

Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation has opened the international competition season with the start of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, which will be held at Baku’s National Gymnastics Arena on March 15-18.

The World Cup will be held in Baku for the third time on March 15-18 will be attended by 100 athletes from 25 countries: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Chile, China, Croatia, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Iran, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, South Africa, China Taipei, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The World Cup is the third competition in the International Gymnastics Federation's all-around World Cup series. At first, there was Melbourne, then Chicago, and now Baku.

World rings champion Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece, Japan's Kazuma Kaya, China's Jile Mu, Croatia's Filip Ude and Uzbekistan's Oksana Chusovitina are the favorites to win the tournament.

Murad Agarzayev, Dariy Morozov and Timur Bayramov will represent Azerbaijan in competitions in men's gymnastics, and Marina Nekrasova, Maria Smirnova and Julia Inshina in women's gymnastics.

The programme includes uneven bars, rings, the vault,  parallel bars, pommel horse exercises and horizontal bar.

The qualifying competitions will be held today and tomorrow. The qualifying competitions will be held in men's floor exercise and men's parallel bars, as well as women's vault will start at 11:00am (MSK). The men's ring, women's horizontal bar will start at 15:30 (MSK). The official opening ceremony of the Cup will start at 18:30 (MSK).

On March 15, the men's vault and women's pommel horse exercises will start at 11:00 (MSK). The men's pommel horse exercises the men's horizontal bar and women's  floor exercise will start at 15:00 (MSK).

The finals in the men's floor exercise (12:00 local time), men's parallel bars (13:30 MSK), men's ring (15:30 MSK), as well as finals in women's vault (13:30 MSK) and women's horizontal bar will be held on March 17. 

The finals in the men's vault (13:00 MSK), men's pommel horse (14:00 MSK), men's horizontal bar (15:00 MSK), as well as finals in women's balance beam (13:00 MSK) and women's floor exercise (14:00 MSK) will be held on March 18.  The award ceremony will be held at 14:30 (MSK)
