FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup opens in Baku

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup has opened at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku.

The World Cup in rhythmic gymnastics is being held in Baku for the sixth time. Some 127 gymnasts from 26 countries are participating in the tournament. Of these, 44 athletes are performing in an individual program, while 83 gymnasts are competing as team members in group exercises. Athletes will compete for 8 medal sets.

Today, at 12.00 Baku time (11.00 MSK) qualifying competitions in the individual hoop and ball events will start. The opening ceremony of the World Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics will start at 17.30 (16.30 MSK), at 18.00 (17.00 Moscow time), the gymnasts will perform in group exercises with five hoops.

The second day of competitions will be opened by qualifying competitions in individual ribbon and clubs events  at 12.00 (11.00 MSK). Strongest gymnasts in each category will be awarded at the ceremony at 17.00 (16.00 MSK). After the ceremony at 18.00 (17.00 MSK) the gymnasts will perform in qualifying group exercises with three balls and two ropes, at 19.05 (18.05 MSK) awarding ceremony will take place in team all-around.

Depending on the results of the qualification, the winners of all-around and the participants of the finals in individual apparatus in both types of programs will be determined.

In the finals, which will be held on Sunday, eight strongest gymnasts and eight best group teams will compete for the title of champions. At 12:00 (11.00 MSK) individual apparatus finals with hoop and ball, will start, at 13.00 (12.00 MSK) -  individual apparatus finals with clubs and ribbon. Strongest gymnasts in each category will be awarded at the ceremony at 14.00 (13.00 MSK). At 14.30 (13.30 MSK) the gymnasts will perform in group exercises with five hoops, as well as with three balls and two ropes, the award ceremony will start at 16:00 (15.00 MSK).

The gymnast and the group that scored the highest points for the performance will traditionally be awarded the AGF Trophy Cup.

Azerbaijan on the first day of the competition is being presented by Zohra Aghamirova and Veronika Hudis in individual exercises, as well as a group team consisting of Ayshan Bayramova, Diana Doman, Zeynab Hummatova, Aliya Pashayeva and Siyana Vasileva.
