The famous photographer Boris Kaufman has died in the 78th year of his life, his close friend and colleague Alan Kasaev said.
Boris Matveevich Kaufman was born on August 9th 1938 in Baku. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University. From 1961 to 1976 he worked in the Press Agency 'Novosti'. He was a pupil of one of the founders of Soviet photojournalism, Michael Azersky. In 1973 he won the gold medal of World Press Photography. In1976-1991, Boris Kaufman worked on the newspaper 'Moskovskie Novosti', from 1991 to 2006 he was deputy chief editor of 'Nezavisimaya Gazeta'.
His personal exhibitions were held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as in the United States, Britain, Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan. Kaufman's works are always included in an anthology of Soviet and Russian photography, RIA Novosti notes.
