Fatal road accident with a bus in the Ryazan region: five dead, dozens injured

On the morning of January 2, on the 277th kilometer of the R22 "Caspian" highway in the Ryazan region, there was an accident involving a bus.Five people were killed. This was reported in the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The accident happened at 05:45 local time near the village of Voslebovo, Skopinsky district.

According to preliminary information, the Neoplan bus traveling from Moscow in the direction of Astrakhan ran over a railroad bridge support. As a result of the road accident, five people died, another 21 passengers were injured.

“The injured were brought to the Skopinsky medical center, including two children. The injuries are severe and moderate, it is possible that someone may need to be transported by helicopter,” said the officer on duty at the Skopinsky interdistrict medical center.

The medical center clarified that they have two patients with severe injuries. One of them will be taken to the Ryazan Regional Clinical Hospital, the second is planned to be operated on at the Skopinsky Medical Center.

Three victims are in critical condition in intensive care. "We received 16 people, three in serious condition in intensive care, seven in surgery, the rest are now being examined by doctors. There have been no surgeries yet, everything is in progress. We also have two small children, age six or seven," - TASS quotes an employee of the medical center.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that at the time of the accident there were 52 people on the bus. A temporary accommodation center was deployed for those who were not injured. "In connection with an accident involving a passenger bus in Ryazan oblast, a hotline 8-800-775-17-17 was opened on the base of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations", said the Ministry.

On the fact of the accident, the police opened a criminal case under Part 5 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code (violation of the traffic regulations, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence). The maximum punishment under this article is imprisonment for up to 7 years, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Ryazan region reported.

The regional prosecutor's office organized an audit of compliance with the requirements of the legislation on road safety. The department suggests that the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove into the oncoming lane.
