Father's Day celebrated around the world

Today, on Sunday, June 3rd, the national US holiday – Father's Day is being celebrated by some countries at the official level. Unofficially, it is also widely celebrating, including in Russia.

The history of the holiday goes dates back to June 19th, 1910 when the it was founded by Mrs. Dodd Spokane (WA) in honor of her father who brought up six children alone. Officially, the US National Father's Day celebration began in 1966 by the decision of President Lyndon Johnson. Usually in this day people support single fathers who bring up children. Other countries also supported the idea to dedicate one day a year to the theme of paternal role in the family.

At present, together with the United States the Father's Day is celebrated in Argentina, United Kingdom, Venezuela, Haiti, Hong Kong, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, Cuba, Mauritius, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico Netherlands, Peru, Singapore, Slovakia, Turkey, the Philippines, France, Chile, Switzerland, Ecuador, South Africa and Japan. On the post-Soviet territory the holiday is officially celebrated only in Armenia and Ukraine.

The Russian festival started celebrating at the beginning of the XXI century and up to this day it is celebrated in some cities at the informal level. In seven subjects of the Russian Federation the holiday has the status of a regional holiday. In Moscow, the Father's Day was celebrated in the Darwin Museum.

On the initiative of the Georgian office of the United Nations Population Fund and the organization 'We Care' aimed involvement of men as caring fathers to the welfare of families, Georgia joined the number of countries that officially celebrate the Father's Day.

In the West, many celebrities published photos of their fathers on social networks today and wrote a few words of congratulations and gratitude.

The famous football player David Beckham posted a photo with his late father Ted Beckham. They had an uneasy relationships, but it his father played the key role in the career of his son.

The popular actor Hugh Jackman posted a photo on Instagram with his father Chris Jackman. Chris Jackman is a believer who gave his son a religious upbringing.

Actor Mark Hamill published a photo with his father William Hamill who was an exemplary officer, the captain of the US Air Forces.

Pop star Madonna also posted a photo of her father, Silvio Ciccone on Instagram. Actress Holly Willoughby and the Mayor of London Sadiq Aman Khan posted photos go their fathers.
