Federica Mogherini reforms European External Action Service

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, announced today the adoption of a modified organisational chart of the European External Action Service.

"This modified organisational chart is the result of a broad consultation which took on board many considerations, including recommendations put forward in the 2013 EEAS Review and the results of the recent Staff Survey, aiming at clearer reporting lines and responsibilities," Interfax cited Mogherini as saying.

As from mid-September, the Secretary General will be assisted by three Deputy Secretaries-General. The Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs, the Deputy Secretary General for CSDP and Crisis Response and a new Deputy Secretary General in charge of Economic and Global Issues. Christian Leffler will take up this new functions.

According to Mogherini, these organisational changes will make the EEAS more effective organisation, will help to deal with the many challenges that it is confronted with.
