First European Games start in Baku
The 2015 European Games, the first in the history of the European continent, have started in Baku today.
The program has begun with the synchronized swimming competition: a qualifying stage of the duet competition has started in the free program. The program involves athletes from 20 countries, including Azerbaijan, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Spain, the Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.
Currently, Russian synchronized swimmers Valeria Filenkova and Daria Kulagina are in the lead, scoring 89.2333 points together. The Ukrainian athletes are (87.5333 points) ranked second, the Spanish athletes (85.7333 points) ranked third.
Azerbaijan in this kind of sport is represented by two synchronized swimmers Tatyana Nikitina and Yekaterina Valiulina. They scored 71.4333 points. At the moment the Azerbaijani athletes are ranked 14th.
Four more couples are expected to perform, The final of the two qualifications in synchronized swimming will be held on June 15.
