First monkeypox case identified in Moldova

The first case of monkeypox has been registered in Moldova, Moldovan Health Minister Alla Nemerenko said on social media.

The patient is a foreigner who has traveled to Moldova from the United States in the interest of work, Nemerenko said.

"The person sought medical assistance at the Toma Ciorba Hospital for Infectious Diseases, where he was hospitalized as a suspected monkeypox case. The symptoms are fever, general weakness and a skin rash. The samples taken from the patient were analyzed at the laboratory of the National Agency for Public Health. The test for monkeypox was positive," the minister said.

It has been established that while in the U.S., the man came into contact with a person who had monkeypox.
