Floyd Mayweather applying for MMA license

Floyd Mayweather applying for MMA license

Former world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has confirmed plans to apply for an MMA license as his UFC bout with Conor McGregor appears to be drawing ever closer.

The American boxer beat the Irishman in the ring back in August 2017 and he confirmed plans are afoot to step into the octagon to take on McGregor on his terms.

Mayweather confirmed that he will be making a formal application to fight in the octagon. "Everything takes time. Eventually, we’re gonna apply for the license, and hopefully we can fight," the boxer said.

He is set to train alongside UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, though he admitted it may take him up to eight months to get ready for the big showdown. "Even if it takes 6 to 8 months — whatever it takes," Metro.co.uk cited him as saying.
