Valtteri Bottas and his No. 77 Mercedes has taken the Pole for the Formula One F1 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku with a lap of 1: 40.495. For Bottas, it is his second Pole of the season, and 8th of his F1 career, Paddock Talk reports.
For Mercedes, it is the team's third pole of the 2019 season. It is also the team's third front row lock-out. It is their 60th front row lock-out in team history.
Lewis Hamilton and his No. 44 Mercedes had a firm grip on Pole, but Bottas tow would overcome.
Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari seemed to be a lock for the front row after the practice sessions. Suddenly it was all silver. Vettel would qualify third and three tenths off the pace. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) will start 10th after a Q2 crash at Turn 8.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) looked to be a threat at times. In the end, he would qualify fourth - .574 seconds back.
Sergio Perez (Racing Point) would round out the top-five qualifiers.
