GUAM strongly condemns Armenia's missile attacks on Azerbaijani cities

The Secretary General of Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM) issued a statement strongly condemning the missile attacks by the Armenian Armed Forces on the Barda and Tartar regions of Azerbaijan,.

The statement posted on GUAM's official Twitter page emphasizes that the organization strongly condemns the rocket attack by Armenia on civilian infrastructure facilities in the Barda and Terter regions of Azerbaijan on October 27-28. As a result of these attacks on areas far from the front line, many civilians were killed and injured, including children, women and the elderly.

"Also, a large number of civilian objects were destroyed. Ballistic missiles and cluster bombs used by Armenia against civilians are prohibited by international law. With this statement, we condemn the criminal actions of the Armenian Armed Forces. The international community, using an effective mechanism, should prevent such war crimes by Armenia against Azerbaijan, " the statement reads.

The Armenian armed forces committed a large-scale provocation, subjecting the positions of the Azerbaijani army to intensive shelling from large-caliber weapons, mortars, and artillery installations of various calibers in the front-line zone on Sept. 27 at 05:00 (Msk). The command of the Azerbaijani Army decided to launch a counter-offensive operation of Azerbaijani troops along the entire front to suppress the combat activity of the Armenian armed forces and ensure the safety of the civilian population. To date, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts, including the cities of Jabrayil and Fizuli, the city of Zangilan and part of Zangilan district, part of the Gubaldi region, the city of Gubadli, the city of Hadrut and a number of villages in the Khojavend region, the villages of Sugovushan and Talish in the Terter region, as well as the strategically important Murovdag mountain were liberated.
