Russia has always had very kind, close and sincere relations with Azerbaijan, the Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said today after visiting the exhibition marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Azerbaijan that opened at the Russian State Duma today, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reports.
Speaking about the historical good relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, Gennady Zyuganov noted that they are doubly friendly and warm for him. "My father, fighting for Odessa, defending Sevastopol, was mortally wounded, but after five operations he survived - he was saved by doctors and nurses in Baku. I was fortunate enough to meet Heydar Aliyev, and I believe that he is the architect of that modern policy that has been laid down in Soviet times, and continued by his son Ilham Aliyev. I was their personal guest and should thank the leadership of Azerbaijan and its parliament for preserving the best Soviet traditions," the Communist Party leader said.
He drew attention to efforts to preserve the Russian language in Azerbaijan. "The republic does everything necessary to prevent an exodus of the Russian-speaking population. Heydar Aliyev personally met with people, came to the Russian community and said that he would guarantee their safety, and then he did everything to ensure peace in the country. Russian language is taught at a good level in all schools of Azerbaijan. Let us do our best to strengthen these relations, especially since there is mutual understanding and support at the highest level ," Gennady Zyuganov called.
Also, the head of Russian Communists thanked the Azerbaijani authorities for the development of Baku. "Baku has the best embankment in the world. Baku has become a cultural center of the whole region. I congratulate you on this great exhibition, and I declare that we have done everything to strengthen our friendship and will continue this historic tradition," the Communist Party leader concluded.
