Georgia celebrates 25th anniversary of independence

Today, Georgia is celebrating the 25th anniversary of independence. This is the most important holiday in the country, which brings together all its residents, regardless of nationality, social or political affiliation.

The epicenter of the celebration of the Independence Day is traditionally the Georgian capital. It is in Tbilisi, with the Rustaveli Avenue and Freedom Square, the struggle for independence in 1989. On April 9, 1991, the first president of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia signed the act of restoration of Georgia's independence in the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue.

May 26th has historical significance - on this day in 1918, the first democratic government of Georgia led by Noe Jordania proclaimed the country's independence.
This year, the Independence Day of Georgia will be celebrated for two days - on 26th and 27th May.

Today, an industrial park, where you can buy watches, sunglasses, computer games and smart toys will be opened on the main avenue of Tbilisi. Visitors will be able to visit the agricultural exhibition and buy Georgian wine, dried fruits, tea, cheese, and wooden goods.

In the morning, the flower festival 'Rose Month in Tbilisi' will be opened at the Sofiko Chiaureli square and adjacent streets, where about 180 florists will present their floral arrangements.
On May 27, a parachute performance by the Georgian and UK military teams and a defence technology and equipment exhibition will be held on the the former horse racetrack in Tbilisi. Guests can also play rugby, volleyball, basketball, chess, table tennis, as well as a command-military sports game AIR SOFT.

The regions of Georgia will celebrate the Independence Day as well. The most colorful event will be held in Poti (the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region), where representatives of rowing and canoeing schools will float down the Rioni River.

Poti will also host an exhibition of the Georgian kings autographs and exhibits from the Museum of Colchian culture.

Recruits will take their oath at the courtyard of the monastery Ikalto in the Kakheti region, near the Nokalakevi fortress in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, at the surrounding area of ​​the Vardzia cave monastery complex in ​​Samtskhe-Javakheti, in front of the Kutaisi Drama Theatre in the Imereti region and at Batumi Boulevard in the Adjara region.

Georgian military equipment will be on display in Telavi, Marneuli, Mtskheta, Gori, Akhaltsikhe, Poti, Zugdidi and Batumi.

A gala concert with the participation of Georgian performers will end celebrations in the regions, Sputnik Georgia reports.
