Georgia parliament changed age of admission of children to first grade

The Georgian Parliament has approved amendments to the law "On General Education" in the third and final reading today, changing the age at which children go to school.

According to Sputnik Georgia, children who turn six years old by October 1 will be able to go to the first grade this year.

Previously, only children who had reached the age of six by September 15 had the opportunity to start school.

83 deputies supported the amendments.

The authors of the project, deputies Giorgi Amilakhvali and Tamar Taliashvili from the ruling Georgian Dream party, said that the amendments to the legislation were made at the request of parents.
