Georgia plans to issue passports to residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia under simplified scheme

The Georgian authorities are planning to issue Georgian biometric passports to residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia so that they could use the right of visa-free entry into EU countries, Sputnik Georgia reports.

According to Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, the Georgian authorities are working hard to make the procedure for obtaining biometric passports more accessible to citizens living there. It is a completely uncontrolled process because a commitment was made to the European Union that the Georgian government will be responsible for every citizen of Georgia who travels to Europe with a Georgian biometric passport.
