Georgia is better prepared to become a member of the European Union than all other candidate countries. This statement was made the day before by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
In this regard, he emphasized that the republic would join the EU by 2030.
"We consistently continue to move along the path of European integration. I am confident that Georgia will become a member of the European Union by 2030. Among the EU candidate countries, Georgia will be the most ready by 2030",

He also drew attention to the fact that the country managed to achieve significant results on its way to the EU under the rule of the Georgian Dream. He clarified that these were free trade association agreements, a visa-free regime and candidate status for EU membership.
The EU is ready to close its doors to Georgia
The conclusion made on June 28 following the European Council summit stated that the current course of the Georgian authorities de facto led to a halt in the process of the republic's accession into the EU.
"The European Council expresses serious concern about recent events in Georgia. In particular, the adopted law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" represents a departure from the steps set out in the Commission's recommendation on granting the candidate status",
the European Council said.
In this regard, the highest political body of the European Union appealed to the authorities of the republic with a request to clarify their intentions by changing the current course of action, which jeopardizes Georgia's EU path and de facto leads to a halt of the accession process.
The European Council also called for an end to the increasing intimidation, threats and physical attacks against civil society representatives, political leaders, civil society activists and journalists in Georgia.
"Respect for the values and principles on which the EU is founded is essential for any country seeking membership",
the European Council said.
It also called on the Georgian leadership to ensure free and fair parliamentary elections, which are scheduled to take place in the country this fall. The European Council intends to continue to monitor the situation closely.

Let us recall that last fall, the European Commission recommended that the EU Council grant the republic candidate status if it fulfilled nine conditions. At the end of December, the Georgian government announced an action plan to implement the EU recommendations. However, in the spring of this year, relations between Georgia and the European Union deteriorated due to the adoption of a law on foreign agents in the republic.
